My cat doesn’t do anything other than be.
Yet every day I pat him and say, “What a good boy.”
My partner does far more.
And yet he’s rarely told that he’s a good boy.
Instead of patting him and telling him he is loved, I point out what needs to be done.
Better. Right. Properly.
While journaling, the Holy Spirit showed me:
- It is within me not to have expectations.
- It is within me to love unconditionally. Because I do it with my cat.
It made me think about God’s love for us. He loves and delights in me even though I’m far from perfect.
I have high expectations and conditions for my spouse.
What would happen if I responded to him the way I treat my cat?
It is within me to love unconditionally.
I do it every day.
“Love is patient, love is kind… It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4–7
