One Day at a time

Getting to be a Day might sound like a piece of cake but it’s not.

People are always wanting more OUT of their Day, more FROM their Day, and what people don’t realise is the pressure to get more done in a day is very hard work on a Day.

It’s exhausting.

And sometimes the feedback a Day gets is tough…

“There aren’t enough hours in THIS day!”

“THIS is a shit day.”

“THIS is the worst day ever.”

Imagine getting that kind of on-the-job feedback. Hardly encouraging.

“Not enough?” Blah! There is always plenty of Day.

Oftentimes the “shit” part is rain. That’s Weather’s job, not Day’s.  Instead of blaming Day, give Weather the serve – “This weather is shit”.

And “worst day ever” is often a “people” issue and has absolutely nothing to do with Day.

It’s little wonder we have such a high turnover of staff. Twenty-four hours is all any Day can handle.

At 12.00 am, a new Day starts. The guy that yesterday was called Tomorrow has become Today. He comes in with fresh new-guy energy. Yet despite his initial vigor, Day’s work ends the same. Every single minute was used, with not a second to spare.

Next time you say to yourself, I need to take one day at a time, please take this advice from a Day who knows. You only get one day at a time so that’s all you CAN do.

Once this Day is finished, it never comes back. There is no replay button. You might reminisce about the Days that were here before and you might wonder about Tomorrow and his friends, the Days-after tomorrow, but you can only ever be present in the Day you’re in.

I’m Thursday 15th February 2024, and I am confident that I can speak for all Days when I say the best thing a Day can ever hear is “Aww… what a great Day!” Or, if you really want to make a Day’s day, then give Day the highest compliment of all – “That was the best Day ever!”

Just wait and see what a Day will do for you when you give it that kind of encouragement.
