I have set myself a “conversation” goal for 2025.
Ask more questions. Say less.
It’s too easy after a little bit of listening to think I have enough information to give you all the answers.
When a conversation repeats, despite my (self-assessed) fabulous advice, that’s a sign.
What’s needed this time, is not the same advice louder or firmer.
It’s questions. And listening. And attention.
And more questions, listening, and attention.
“Tell me more.”
“What else?”
(Michael Bungay Stanier, the author of The Coaching Habit)
It’s too simplistic to think that the problem is what you’re trying to solve. It’s likely a symptom.
The root cause, where the true learning and breakthrough comes from, is just a question or two or three away.
“Tell me more. I’m listening”.
