Discounts don’t lead to savings

I know this may not be popular – but here goes:

The only way to save money is not to spend money.

Oh I know – killjoy!

Over the next few weeks you will be bombarded with “great deals ” – MASSIVE DISCOUNTS, 50% OFF, Buy two, get the third FREE!

Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year sales designed to entice you into spending up large. We love them – bargains and value galore! The opportunities to save are endless.

Wikipedia says “Saving is income not spent, or deferred consumption“.

So that means saving is not spending.

You may get a great deal and you may pay less for the thing/s you buy but you will not save money unless you come home with the same amount of money you went out with.
