Stop it!

Have you watched this Bob Newhart video titled “Stop it’?

Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] (‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭27‬ AMPC)

I’ve read this scripture many times but “STOP allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed…” really got my attention this morning.

Jesus tells us that he leaves us with His peace and He tells us not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid. Yet many of us are often found wading in a murky pool of agitation and upset. And often, we’re there by choice.

Next time you are feeling agitated or disturbed or unsettled, try this…

STOP IT!

And instead….

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8-9‬ NIV)

  1. Brilliant! Both the video and the message of your post. I don’t think I’ve read John 14:27 in the Amplified version before. If I had, it certainly did not stay with me. I liked the way you tied the STOP IT! message of this humorous skit with your chosen biblical texts. I believe it will certainly stay in my mind and trusting God that it will have a deep, lasting impression in my spirit.

    I’ve enjoyed my little excursion over to your place. It has been quite enriching.

    1. Oh thank you Carol. I really appreciate your comments. I have been a tad slack on blogging this year but as the holiday season is almost upon us (we have 3 weeks off work) there will be no more excuses. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas too. God bless.
